Who Am I……..Mrs. M. Athena Newton, MA
Welcome. I am Mrs. Athena Newton, MA. I am the fourth grade mathematics teacher for Odyssey Academy for the 2010 – 2011 academic school year.
I was born in Chicago, Illinois to immigrant families (mom’s family is from Lithuania and dad’s family is from Crete, Greece). I have traveled extensively throughout my life and have lived abroad. I was in the Army at a young age and educated in radiation technology while I was in the service.
I moved to Dallas, Texas in the year of 2000 with my husband and children form the Midwest. I graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas Summa Cum Laude in Cognitive Psychology with a published Thesis. My children and I moved to Galveston, Texas in 2004 and both children began taking classes at Texas A & M University on Pelican Island, Texas. I attended the University of Houston at Clear Lake and graduated with Highest Honors in Behavioral Psychology with a published Thesis. I then continued on to the PACT program to completed accredited hours from The College of the Mainland toward my Teacher’s Certification for the state of Texas.
I am widowed with two children. I home schooled my children from fourth grade through high school. My son Brent is 23yrs old and attends South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. Brent will graduate in 2011 and sit for the Law Bar Exam. My daughter Tasia is 22yrs old and attends The University of Texas Medical Branch Medical School in Galveston, Texas. Tasia will graduate in 2012 with a Medical Doctoral Degree.
This academic school year will begin my fourth year with Odyssey Academy. This is my third year teaching 4th grade math at Odyssey Academy. I am very excited about this new school year and my new students. I enjoy the children as well as teaching them math. Math is my absolute favorite subject and we always have a lot of fun with the operations of math. We will approach math with a positive attitude and a spirit of enthusiasm.
FOURTH GRADE MATH STUDENTS ARE THE BEST! FOURTH GRADE ROCKS!
