We are in the middle of a fun project! In groups, the students have chosen travel destinations. They have been assigned the job of travel agent and must prepare a trip with options to potential clients. So far, we have created thermometers showing current temperature of our cities, bar graphs comparing airline flights, clocks showing flight departure and arrival times, and function tables comparing costs of hotel rooms. We will finish up with advertising and presentations next week. Here are some pictures of the children working on their projects today.

The Thursday before Easter, the students participated in an Easter egg hunt. Each egg was filled with a question from a previous TAKS test. The students had to solve each problem, record his or her answer, then find another egg. The pairs with the most correct answers at the end of 30 minutes won the hunt.

The students earn a salary each week based on performance of their weekly “job” combined with extra earned money for good behavior or acts of kindness. Jobs include such things as the classroom pencil manager, door holder, meteorologist, secretary, distributor, and many other jobs that help our classroom be a successful place to learn. At the end of the month, students are able to spend their money in a classroom store where they can purchase toys, school supplies, free homework passes, and the most coveted lunch in the classroom passes. Here are a few pictures from our last classroom store.

We will take our 9 weeks Math benchmark exam on Thursday, January 5th. This will be modeled after the STAAR standardized test that the students will take in April and will cover all of the information that the students have been taught so far this school year.

Please make sure your child is well rested and arrives to school on time and focused. This will count as a major test grade for the second 9 weeks. Thanks!
